Program Introduction

Program Description

Medical Parasitology is a branch of medical sciences that focuses on parasites that infect humans and the diseases they cause. Since parasites are important causative agents of human diseases, studying their biology, diagnosis, epidemiology, and control is essential. This program provides students with knowledge of parasite life cycles, the diseases they cause, their epidemiology and routes of transmission, pathogenesis, clinical signs and symptoms, diagnostic methods, and strategies for disease prevention and control. Students develop these competencies through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical training, with particular emphasis on laboratory-based activities. The history of parasitology dates back thousands of years. Avicenna, a prominent Persian physician and scholar, described certain diseases associated with specific symptoms, contributing to the historical development of medical knowledge. The primary mission of the program is to train qualified medical parasitologists who can contribute to the diagnosis of parasitic infections, the development and implementation of control strategies, scientific research, and education.
