Regional Overview

Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province is located in the heart of the Zagros mountain range in southwestern Iran and covers approximately 16,416 square kilometers. With an average elevation exceeding 2,100 meters, it is the highest province in terms of topography and is widely known as the “Roof of Iran.” The province is predominantly mountainous, enriched with intermountain plains, permanent rivers, abundant springs, wetlands, and protected natural areas. Major mountain ranges such as Zardkuh Bakhtiari play a crucial role in supplying vital water resources, including the Karun and Zayandeh Rood rivers. The region also enjoys rich biodiversity, diverse climates, and notable historical, cultural, and nomadic heritage, making it a destination of ecological and tourism significance. The health sector of the province is administered by Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, which manages healthcare delivery, medical education, research, and public health services. The university has expanded significantly since its establishment, now overseeing extensive healthcare networks, hospitals, educational faculties, research centers, and community health facilities. Through integrated efforts in prevention, treatment, education, research, and resource management, the university plays a central role in improving health indicators, enhancing access to services, advancing scientific research, and promoting sustainable development and quality of life for the population of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province.
