Dr. Rasoul Rahimi, a superspecialist in liver and pancreas transplantation and the secretary of the Organ Transplant Policy Council at Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences, stated that for the first time in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, a simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplant was successfully performed on a young patient who had suffered from pancreatic and renal failure for several years.

Dr. Rahimi elaborated on this news, stating that the simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation is performed in diabetic patients who are experiencing complications from diabetes and renal failure.

He added that this complex surgery, lasting 12 hours, was conducted with the support of the organ transplant team from Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences at Ayatollah Kashani Hospital.

It is noteworthy that such advanced organ transplantation procedures are typically performed only in medical centers in Shiraz and Tehran, and this marks the first occurrence in Shahrekord and the western region of the country.
